Anne Jonsdatter Mork, also known as Anna on various records, was born on 18 Jan 18181 in Akaasa U Yli, Heddal, Telemark, Norway1 as the oldest daughter of John Johnsen Brenna and Liv Petersdatter Brekka. Anne was baptized on 25 Jan and her sponsors were Svenning and Helge Yhli, Ellev and Griml Grini and John Prosspau (the last names here being the names of the farms they lived on and likely misspelled by me).
Before Anne was born, two brothers who lived only short lives were born, both were named John (1813-1813 and 1814). It is believed the younger John died young as I have been unable to find any record of confirmation for him. Anne did have a younger sister Liv Johnsdatter England who was born in 1821, but she also died young, at the age of 18. So, it appears Anne was the only child that lived to adulthood.
By 1821, when Liv was born, the family was living on the England farm in Heddal, Telemark, Norway. They were still living there on 20 October 1833 when Anne was confirmed.5
The next several years were likely very stressful for Anne as her mother died in 1834, her father in 1838 and her sister Liv in 1839.
When she was 32, on 1 March 1850, she married Hans Torgussen Haugen, who was 19 at the time, in Heddal, Telemark, Norway4. At the time Hans was living at Nykaas farm and Anne was living at Sondre Mork.
Hans and Anne soon added to their family with their firstborn arriving less than two months after their marriage. Their children were:
1. Torger Hansen “Torgus” Haugen was born on 22 Apr 185014 in Telemark, Norway14. He died about 1928 in Washburn, North Dakota, USA. He married Ingeborg Olesdatter Skogan about 1883.
2. John Hansen Torgersen was born on 18 Jun 185315 in Telemark, Norway15 (Heddal15). He died on 27 Nov 192616,17 in Minnesota, USA16,17 (Stomach cancer16,17). He married Ingeborg Rollefsdatter Holte on 13 Jun 187812,18 in Lac qui Parle, Minnesota, USA12,18 (lic #A7807612,18).
3. Hans Hansen Haugen Odergaarden was born on 13 Apr 185719 in Heddal, Telemark, Norway19. He died on 10 Nov 186320 in Telemark, Norway20.
4. Anne Hansdatter “Anne Torgersen” Haugen was born on 24 Apr 186121 in Telemark, Norway21. She died about 1937. She married Torsten Rollefsen Holte about 1880 in Lac qui Parle, Minnesota, USA.
Hans and his family immigrated to America7 on 04 Apr 18687. At that time John was 38 and Anne was 50, Torjus and John were 18 and 15 respectively, and the youngest Anne was 7.
Hans, Anne and their children lived in Military Township, Winneshiek, Iowa, USA8 in 18708. By 1875, they had moved to Lac qui Parle, Minnesota, USA9, where they were living with John and Anne. That is where they were also living in 188010.
In 1885 11 they were still in Lac qui Parle, but now using the surname Haugen from the Norwegian farm. Hans’s brother Ole, his wife and children were also living at the farm.
They lived in Ten Mile Lake, Lac qui Parle, Minnesota, USA12 in 190512 .
Anne died on 07 February 19062,3 in Ten Mile Lake, Lac qui Parle, Minnesota, USA2,3 and was buried one week later at the Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Baxter Cemetery3,24.
